Technical Abstract: Powdery mildew of beet, a disease caused by Erysiphe polygoni, is a problem in most beet growing areas. Symptoms include whitish mats of hyphae and conidia that can cover leaves and flower stalks and cause leaves to turn yellow, then purplish brown. Characteristics of the pathogen, epidemiology and management strategies are discussed.
