Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The Water Erosion Prediction Project (WEPP) model is a process-based, distributed parameter, continuous simulation computer program for estimation of runoff, soil loss and sediment yield from fields and small watersheds. In addition to having large databases for application to a multitude of U.S. soils, climates and management systems, WEPP also has a variety of user interfaces that make use of the model very easy. For many users, very simple and rapid erosion estimates can be made with web-based versions of WEPP, accessible through the National Soil Erosion Research Laboratory's (NSERL) web servers. For more detailed and focused conservation planning or erosion inventories, there is a stand-alone Windows interface as well as an Arc-View GIS extension (GeoWEPP). Erosion science technology within the current WEPP model is being extracted and ported into a new combined wind and water erosion process model being developed under the Object Modeling System (OMS) in cooperation with USDA scientists in Fort Collins, Colorado, Manhattan, Kansas, and at other locations in the United States.
