Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The Quality Control program of an analytical laboratory is a key component in support of a research or compliance laboratory because it provides objective evidence for certified results. The recent addition of a customized, computerized database to our analytical laboratory has improved many aspects of the service to our scientists and external cooperators. We have introduced new techniques in sample tracking, data validation and customer notification. Some key elements of the database include status page, import/export functions, search capability, report generation, highlighting of specified data, view screen for identified columns of data, and capability to generate sample labels. Within the laboratory, this system has eliminated transcription errors, organized the data output in a functional manner, improved the quality and quantity of work output, and increased the efficiency and accountability of laboratory staff.
