Research Project: Using Monitoring, Assessment, and Observatory Data to Shorten Socio-Ecological Feedbacks

Location: Northern Great Plains Research Laboratory

Project Number: 3064-21660-004-004-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 1, 2016
End Date: Jul 31, 2021

Objective:
Identify factors influencing landowner decision-making processes and relate them to current monitoring, assessment, and LTAR observatory measurements to prioritize landowner utilization of ecological feedbacks. This effort will increase benefits of each dollar spent on improvement to agricultural working lands.

Approach:
The cooperator will travel to the USDA-ARS Northern Great Plains Research Lab to meet with ARS scientists and landowners to identify an initial set of relevant feedbacks, and to develop human dimensions research questions. The ARS scientist will visit Virginia Tech to develop collaborations that will aid in identifying factors affecting landowner decision-making processes and identify ways of reducing feedback loops between available knowledge and stewardship behavior.
