Objective:
Search for new toxins and repellants from ant defensive secretions and develop fire ant control products using identified compounds.
Approach:
Native ants in China which show strong competition with the red imported fire ants will be identified and their defensive secretions will be collected. The toxicity and repellecy of ant defensive compounds will be investigated and the active compounds will be isolated and identified. New fire ant control products will be developed using identified active compounds.
