Objective:
This research is aimed to accelerate the application of the Agricultural Conservation Planning Framework (ACPF), a flexible framework for watershed-scale conservation planning. This will support Cooperator efforts to improve and streamline the Conservation Planning Process, facilitate the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP), and address the reduction of nutrient loads from agricultural watersheds.
Approach:
The ACPF framework is designed to identify opportunities for the placement of conservation practices to maximize the benefit for the application of limited resources allocated for water quality improvement. The framework and supporting software are already developed and ready for application. The approach used will aim to increase the types of practices that can be placed in watersheds for planning purposes using the ACPF software toolbox, expand the input databases to include additional areas within and beyond the Midwest, develop utilities to improve the capacity of the ACPF to assess watershed planning alternatives and inform farm-scale conservation planning, and provide workshops and other interactions to enable Cooperator to include the ACPF in watershed planning activities.
