Location: Livestock Arthropod Pests Research
Project Number: 3094-32000-036-049-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Aug 1, 2015
End Date: Jun 30, 2019
Objective:
Facilitate the assembly and annotation of the horn fly transcriptome and tissue-specific transcriptomes of the cattle tick. Progress in development of novel control technologies based on reverse vaccinology.
Approach:
Next-generation Illumina and Third generation Pacific Biosciences sequencing approaches are the methodologies best suited for sequencing through the difficult repetitive regions of the horn fly and cattle tick genomes and transcriptomes. Selected transcriptome analysis of dissected organs or tissues will be targeted by this approach, with the midgut a likely tissue of interest. Bioinformatic analysis will be required to assemble and annotate this data. In some cases, Pacific Biosciences Third Generation sequencing technology will be used for library synthesis and SMRT cell protocol optimized for long read sequencing. Specialized bioinformatic analysis will be required for interpretation, assembly and annotation of this dataset.
