Research Project: Genotyping-by-Sequencing the Phlox Collection in the National Plant Germplasm System

Location: Application Technology Research

Project Number: 5082-21000-018-003-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 1, 2015
End Date: Jul 31, 2019

Objective:
Develop a genotyping strategy for the Phlox germplasm collection in the National Plant Germplasm System using the genotype-by-sequencing (GBS) approach.

Approach:
DNA will be isolated from up to 192 accessions of 18 species of Phlox. The DNA preparation will be optimized for sequencing. Samples will be sequenced at the Genomic Diversity Facility of Cornell University who will also assist in the interpretation. Sequences will be analyzed using the software pipeline pyRAD; genome information will be stored in the NCBI short-read archive database.
