Research Project: Long-Term Agroecosystems Research for California

Location: Agricultural Water Efficiency and Salinity Research Unit

Project Number: 2036-61000-018-001-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 30, 2014
End Date: Sep 29, 2019

Objective:
(1.) Identify long-term agroecosystems research questions related to food supply, climate change adaptation/mitigation, bioenergy, water/air/soil quality, biodiversity, and economic sustainability and livelihoods that are relevant to California, the U.S., and elsewhere; (2.) For California, identify infrastructure, historical data, research networks, and collaborative partnerships that will enable trans-disciplinary science which address long-term agroecological research challenges.

Approach:
This project facilitates the development of long-term agroecosystems research in California. Relevant research questions and potential collaborative partners will be identified though literature reviews, stakeholder meetings, and site visits involving potential collaborative partners, including University of California, University of California Research and Extension Centers, water agencies, and growers. Existing long-term research infrastructure and data will be similarly identified. Where possible, modeling analyses using available data will be developed to aid in the formulation and preliminary assessment of research questions.
