Research Project: Control of Toxic Lupines in a Mountain Big Sagebrush Community

Location: Range Sheep Production Efficiency Research

Project Number: 5364-31610-005-08
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 21, 2014
End Date: Jun 30, 2017

Objective:
Determine the efficacy of aminocyclopyrachlor herbicide products on lupine and non-target species.

Approach:
The USDA, Agricultural Research Servie ARS) and the DuPont Company (DuPont) will determine the efficacy aminocyclopyrachlor herbicide products on control of lupine in Mountain Big sagebrush communities. Experimental research will be based on application of incremental application rates of test herbicide on pastures areas with dense lupine stands. Pretreatment and repeated post-treatment vegetation observations will be made. Experimental results will be used to (1) estimate herbicide efficacy for lupine control and (2) determine herbicide impact on nontarget species.
