Objective:
Fire management in the Nations wildlands is an on-going concern to the American public and to the land management bureaus and agencies responsible for the protection and conservation of the Nation’s public lands. Considerable progress has been made in fire management planning and fire suppression by all agencies and continued progress can be achieved by concerted cooperation and coordination amongst the agencies. Because fire recognizes no boundaries, programs must lead to more productive cooperation and efficient operations among these agencies. The objective of this agreement is to document the cooperation between the USDA Forest Service and USDA Agricultural Research Service to outline the procedures that will be followed in the event of a wildfire on or near research lands.
Approach:
The intention of the research and applicable work by both ARS and the Forest Service shall benefit the research lands, range and forest in Idaho and the adjacent states, and for the benefit of the people of the United States in accordance with the interagency agreement FS No. 14-IA-11041564-018. The USSES will provide accurate maps of areas of special concern within USSES managed lands. Items such as buildings, infrastructures or any additional areas that USSES is particularly concerned that wildfire would pose a significant negative affect. By May 1 of each year, throughout the life of the agreement, the USSES will provide the U.S. Forest Service a listing of updated contact information (during and after business hours) for key USSES personnel to ensure information sharing occurs in a timely manner. If a wildfire exceeds initial attack or is managed to achieve resource objectives, USSES personnel will be involved with all major decisions to manage the incident. The U.S. Forest Service will be responsible for managing all wildland fires on USSES lands whether they originate on, or burn onto these lands. The U.S. Forest Service will work closely with USSES personnel to determine management objectives and strategies for suppression activities.
