Project Number: 6227-21310-009-06
Start Date: Jul 01, 2014
End Date: Jun 30, 2019
New and existing multi-location trials in Missouri and Arkansas and elsewhere will be utilized to quantify the biophysical and socioeconomic drivers of productivity of mixed-species agroforestry systems of small farms that combine trees or shrubs with agricultural, horticultural, and alternative crops, forages and grazing livestock for optimal economic, environmental, and natural resources benefits. Biophysical investigations will encompass measuring productivity, physiological and molecular investigations to enhance growth, screening of germplasm, breeding for enhanced growth in a changing climate, product development, assessing quality of food and fiber, assessing soil health, water quality, and other ecosystem services. The socio-economic investigations will include assessments of landowner attitude towards agroforestry, agroforestry policies, landowner adoption, economic and social impacts, and sustainability indicators.
