USDA-ARS will 1) identify the most cold-tolerant life-stage of SWD at treatment temperatures and durations relevant to stone fruit marketing (ca. 32-35 F), 2) enumerate the time required at the respective temperatures to control the most cold-tolerant life-stage of SWD , and 3) conduct confirmatory trials with > 30,000 specimens of the most cold-tolerant life-stage of SWD. USDA-ARS will then work with industry and USDA-APHIS to transfer results from these studies into commercial protocols and considerations as part of a systems-based strategy for California stone fruit access to New Zealand and Australia.
