Research Project: Genomic Regions and Genetic Constellations Associated with Agronomic Traits, Fruit Quality and Disease Resistance in the American Cranberry

Location: Genetic Improvement of Fruits and Vegetables

Project Number: 1245-21000-276-07
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Oct 01, 2013
End Date: Aug 31, 2017

Objective:
The identification of specific loci, their alleles, as well as the inter- and intra-locus constitutions in cranberry that confer agronomic elite phenotypes.

Approach:
This is a multi-disciplinary project involving three Co-Principal Investigators, Rutgers University, USDA ARS BA BARC Genetic Improvement of Fruit and Vegetables Laboratory and USDA ARS MWA Vegetable Crops Research Unit. A next-generation sequencing approach will be used to genotype a cranberry germplasm collection and to combine those data with phenotypic data for association mapping. ARS' involvement is to co-supervise a Rutgers University postdoc to process and analyze data for association mapping and assistants for processing of materials, phenotyping, data entry, and other tasks as needed.
