Improve decision support for assessment of resource conditions, and utilize parallel computing and deep hydrology water balance as needed. Work will continue in Maui (energy grasses/canes) for potential biofuel production for the Navy and to provide island scenario validation for surface and groundwater recharge, atmospheric & carbon flux impacts, biomass yield &stability of feedstock production with minimal environmental impacts at watershed scale, and the fusion of the ALMANAC, SWAT, EPIC and MODFLOW models to enable crop management. Carbon dioxide sequestration through plant roots will continue to be evaluated. Remote towers, UAV measurements and Satellite imaging will continue to calculate crop water use of sugarcane under island conditions.
