Location: Pasture Systems & Watershed Management Research

Project Number: 1902-21000-008-11
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Oct 01, 2012
End Date: Aug 31, 2014

Objective:
Evaluate the spatially resolved GHG emissions and environmental emissions that contribute to ecosystem services of energy sorghum and switchgrass in the Texas-South East U.S. across soils and previous land use history typical of the region.

Approach:
A process-based life cycle inventory analysis following ISO 14040-series standards will be constructed to profile the energy, net GHG (CO2, N2O, and CH4), and nitrate runoff emissions associated with switchgrass and energy sorghum production to evaluate contributions to global warming potential (GWI) and water and soil quality at the farm scale. Detailed life cycle inventory (LCI) models will be developed for the feedstocks using the DayCent model.
