Objective:
The objective of this project is to develop molecular markers linked to internal heat necrosis (IHN) and other important potato processing traits. To do this, phenotyping of the mapping population for potato chip processing quality will be completed; and detailed molecular analyses of IHN, starch and dry matter content, specific gravity, maturity, yield and chip quality in this population will be conducted.

Approach:
To collect the chipping data, clones from the mapping population will be planted on Aroostook State Farm, Presque Isle, ME, in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Following harvest, specific gravity will be determined, and clones stored for processing from 10, 7 and 4 degrees C in January. Chip color will be measured visually and by Agtron. Tetraploid Map will be used to map SNPs from the mapping population to potato chromosomes and then the genotypic and phenotypic data will be analyzed to identify those markers linked to IHN, specific gravity, maturity, yield, and processing quality.
