Objective:
The objective of this cooperative agreement is to promote scientific and academic cooperation between the USDA, Agricultural Research Service's research unit based at the Jornada Experimental Range (ARS) and the New Mexico State University, based in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Cooperation activities include the promotion of joint cooperative research and development projects regarding land management and the development of a Land-Potential Knowledge System.

Approach:
Collaborative academic activities including seminars, workshops, scientific meetings, and training activities will be planned according to mutual interests and requirements. Research and development activities concern primarily the design, piloting and implementation of a global Land-Potential Knowledge System in Africa and the United States. Research activities will be focused primarily on increasing the understanding of how to more efficiently and effectively generate and share knowledge and information about land potential to sustainably support increased agricultural production and other ecosystem services.
