In Vitro and In Vivo Assessment of Iron Bioavailability of Biofortified Transgenic Sorghum
Plant, Soil and Nutrition Research
Project Number: 1907-42520-004-05
Start Date: Oct 01, 2012
End Date: Aug 30, 2013
The objective of this work will be to assess Fe bioavailability from lines transgenic sorghum generated by Pioneer Seeds. These lines have been designed to be low in phytic acid, a known inhibitor of Fe absorption. We will determine if Fe bioavailability in these lines is enhanced by lower phytate levels.
Using our established cell culture tools and an animal model (poultry), we will evaluate the Fe bioavailability in sorghum.
