Research Project: REALIZING INCREASED PHOTOSYNTHETIC EFFICIENCY FOR SUSTAINABLE INCREASES IN CROP YIELD

Location: Global Change and Photosynthesis Research Unit

Project Number: 3611-21000-024-29
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Oct 26, 2012
End Date: Apr 25, 2014

Objective:
Improve photosynthetic efficiency of crop plants and crop canopies.

Approach:
1) An improved photorespiratory bypass pathway will be engineered into crop plants. 2) Mathematical modeling will be conducted to predict the optimum chlorophyll content of leaves to maximize the seasonal integral of photosynthesis and the optimum chlorophyll content of plants will be engineered in plants.
