Research Project: International Musa testing program: Evaluation of improved Musa materials for agronomic performance and host reaction to pests and diseases

Location: Tropical Crops and Germplasm Research

Project Number: 6635-21000-051-02
Project Type: Trust

Start Date: Nov 30, 2012
End Date: Nov 03, 2013

Objective:
Field verification and characterization of Musa spp. accessions maintained in vitro for more than 10 years at Bioversity International’s ITC (International Transit Center).

Approach:
Approximately ten different disease resistant in vitro Musa spp. tissue culture plants will be received from Bioversity International’s International Musa Transit Center in Belgium for the establishment of field trials. Plants will be multiplied in laboratories, acclimated in greenhouses, established in the field and evaluated for two cropping cycles for disease resistance, agronomic traits and post-harvest qualities.
