Project Number: 5306-51000-004-04
Start Date: Jul 01, 2013
End Date: Jun 30, 2015
Our purpose is to contribute to the reduction of maternal and child undernutrition by providing an evidence base for the use of lipid-based nutrient supplements in low-income populations.
Therefore these studies will assess the efficacy of a lipid-based nutrient supplement (LNS) for home fortification of foods consumed by pregnant and lactating women and their infants in two community-based randomized controlled trials.
1) To measure vitamin and mineral status of Ghanaian and Malawian pregnant and lactating women and their infants who are given a lipid based nutrient supplement vs. standard of care or micronutrients in a pill.
2) To measure vitamin and mineral status of Malawian children given a lipid based nutrient supplement containing milk or no milk in 20 or 40g/day rations.
