Research Project: NANOSTRUCTURED ENZYME ASSEMBLIES FOR LIGNOCELLULOSIC BIOMASS BREAKDOWN FOR BIOPRODUCT AND BIOENERGY APPLICATIONS

Location: Bioproduct Chemistry and Engineering Research

Project Number: 5325-41000-049-06
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Feb 01, 2012
End Date: May 31, 2015

Objective:
To create a scaffold system that can be used to test various enzymes to rapidly break down biomass as well as produce value-added products.

Approach:
Determine ideal enzyme ratios (assembled on a protein scaffold) to hydrolyze various biomass substrates. Enzyme cocktails will be developed that will reduce the severity of costly pretreatment conditions.
