Research Project: PILOT STUDY ON SURVEILLANCE OF MOSQUITOES AND WEST NILE VIRUS ACTIVITY IN THE AREA OF THESSALONIKI, GREECE Project Number: 0212-22000-024-11

Objective:
ARS will characterize mosquito populations and determine their potential for disease transmission in the vicinity of Thessaloniki, Greece.

Approach:
Mosquito populations will be monitored in the county of Thessaloniki, Greece, by using a standardized method (CDC light traps). The main problematic mosquito species in the area will be identified in relation to their nuisance level and their potential for disease transmission. West Nile Virus activity will specifically be monitored by using 2 types of sentinel vertebrates (chickens, horses). A report will be delivered to the funding agency.
