Research Project: GEOSCIENCE RESEARCH FOR IMPROVED ECOSYSTEM SERVICE EVALUATIONS AND ASSESSMENTS

Location: Water Quality and Ecology Research

Project Number: 6408-13660-007-12
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 01, 2012
End Date: Aug 31, 2017

Objective:
Develop geoscience technology to assess the effectiveness of conservation practices that enhance ecosystem services at multiple scales.

Approach:
a) Develop Geographic information system (GIS) databases to document land cover/land use and other key aspects of agricultural watersheds to allow simulations with watershed models. b) Investigate remote sensing methods for characterization of riparian vegetative buffers, wetlands, and conservation practices for assessment with the AnnAGNPS watershed model in reducing pollutant loads.
