Research Project: GENOME SEQUENCING OF EMERGING PATHOGENIC WEISSELLA SP.

Location: Cool and Cold Water Aquaculture Research

Project Number: 1930-32000-005-07
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: May 01, 2012
End Date: May 01, 2014

Objective:
The objectives of this project are to characterize a recently emerging Weissela sp. bacterium by whole genome sequencing. Use sequences to identify potential virulence factors as well as diagnostic and vaccine targets.

Approach:
Sequencing will be accomplished using an Ion Torrent instrument to rapidly sequence and produce a high-quality draft assembly at approximately 30x coverage of the novel Weissela sp. bacterium and thus rapidly determine potential virulence factor genes of the bacterium.
