Objective:
Improve methods for serological diagnosis of bovine and equine babesiosis.

Approach:
1. An Egyptian researcher will be trained in the techniques to be used for manipulating the samples in the U.S. and in Egypt; 2. Field blood samples from bovines and equines in distinct areas of Egypt will be obtained; 3. The field blood samples will be tested for the presence of Babesia DNA using PCR techniques. 4. The field serum samples will be tested for presence of anti-Babesia antibodies using a competive commercial ELISA test; 5. The data will be analyzed using statistical tests; 6. A manuscript will be prepared for publication in a peer reviewed Journal.
