Research Project: GENOMICS AND PROTEOMIC TECHNOLOGY FOR MICROBIAL PATHOGEN CHARACTERIZATION AND IDENTIFICATION

Location: Molecular Characterization of Foodborne Pathogens

Project Number: 1935-42000-070-05
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jan 01, 2012
End Date: Dec 31, 2016

Objective:
This agreement establishes a collaboration between the College of Bioresources and Agriculture, National Taiwan University (CBA-NTU) and the USDA, Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Eastern Regional Research Center (ERRC). The objective of this agreement is to mainly conduct collaborative research in the area of Food Safety, including but not limited to applications of genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics for (1) microbial pathogen detection, identification, and characterization; (2) typing and traceability; and (3) development of intervention technologies to enhance food safety.

Approach:
The goal of this agreement is to generate broad interest and increased activities upon mutual consent between the ARS-ERRC and the CBA-NTU. Staff or students from the CBA-NTU will visit the ARS-ERRC to share information and to conduct research of mutual interest and as outlined above. Scientists from the ARS-ERRC will also visit the CBA-NTU to share research information. The ARS-ERRC and CBA-NTU will develop joint research projects to generate knowledge on specific food-borne pathogens that may impact normal import and export of food products. The research data generated through the collaborative studies will be published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at scientific meetings.
