Research Project: QUANTIFYING THE WATER QUALITY IMPACTS OF IMPLEMENTING COVER CROPS

Location: Soil Drainage Research

Project Number: 3604-13000-011-27
Project Type: Trust

Start Date: Nov 22, 2011
End Date: Oct 14, 2016

Objective:
Quantify the impacts of cover crops on tile drained lands.

Approach:
We will use a field based approach with automated samplers and compound weirs located on the outlets of two subsurface tile mains (one draining land with cover crops and one draining land with no cover crops). Samples will be collected for a 2 year period and analyzed for nutrient concentrations. This paired approach will permit quantification of water quality benefits of implementing cover crops.
