Research Project: EVALUATION OF THE ARS-FLA PROTOTYPE EPG MONITOR FOR COMMERCIALIZATION

Location: Crop Diseases, Pests and Genetics

Project Number: 5302-22000-010-13
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jan 05, 2012
End Date: Feb 28, 2013

Objective:
To provide live-insect evaluation of a new prototype production version of the patented Backus-Bennett AC-DC EPG monitor design to be built by ARS-FLA, Inc.

Approach:
ARS-FLA, Inc. will build a prototype AC-DC EPG monitor, based on designs provided by EPG Equipment Co. ARS-FLA, Inc. will send the prototype to ARS, Parlier, CA., for evaluation of its effectiveness in recording feeding behavior of 2-3 representative species of piercing-sucking insect vectors. The ARS scientist will write a report, and iteratively test modified designs (if necessary) until a working, marketable monitor is completed.
