Research Project: BREEDING AND GENETICS OF FUSARIUM HEAD BLIGHT RESISTANCE IN BARLEY Project Number: 0500-00053-003-43
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: Jul 07, 2011
End Date: Jul 06, 2014

Objective:
The overall goal of this project will be to conduct two cycles of Genomic Selection (GS) funding cycle to generate a set of 60 F2 populations that will be distributed to three Midwest six-row breeding programs in the spring of 2012.

Approach:
Crossing of selected parents, advancing populations to the F3 generation, and GS prediction of breeding values. At least 1,000 F3 lines will be grown in the greenhouse in the fall of 2010, genotyped with 384 SNP markers that will be used to make GS model predictions to select parents.
