Research Project:
USE OF NEAR INFRARED (NIR) SPECTROSCOPY IN SUPPORT OF COTTON BREEDING
Location: Coastal Plain Soil, Water and Plant Conservation Research
Project Number: 6657-21000-006-08
Project Type:
Reimbursable
Start Date: Jan 01, 2011
End Date: Dec 31, 2011
Objective:
Utilizing cotton breeder's samples, demonstrate the feasibility that near infrared spectroscopy (NIR) of raw cotton can accurately predict the quality of cotton yarn.
Approach:
ARS-Florence will collect field grown fiber from an array of breeding lines and commercial cultivars. ARS-Clemson will produce yarn and develop a near infrared spectroscopy model that predicts yarn quality parameters.
