Objective:
A few short cycle banana varieties have been identified which will be assessed for suitability in providing dooryard crops in the Treasure Coast area of Florida.
Approach:
Cooperator will arrange for propagation of identified banana varieties and will provide plants for establishment at USHRL. Curator of the Miami Repository, will be involved in the project and provide expert guidance. Banana varieties will be planted at USHRL in a randomized complete block design. Two sets of the most rapid cycling variety will be dug up each year and overwintered in protected site, one will be replanted at 1 pup per planting space and the other at 3 plants per space.
