Research Project: FIRST INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON AGRICULTURAL BIOCONTAINMENT AND SAFETY ISSUES Project Number: 0208-32000-001-34
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Dec 09, 2009
End Date: Dec 08, 2013

Objective:
The purpose of this Symposium is to promote the principles and practices of research safety, with a focus on Agricultural Research, both in the controlled laboratory environment as well as field research. The American Biological Safety Association (ABSA) is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit professional organization with a mission to promote the principles and practices of laboratory biosafety. This is accomplished through sponsorship of biosafety training, education forums, and other outreach initiatives.

Approach:
ABSA will serve as the symposium's primary coordinating agent, responsible for planning, developing, and managing all logistical arrangements. ABSA will receive financial compensation for their professional services, resulting exclusively from the symposium's net (final) proceeds. ABSA shall assume all financial risk associated with the generation of funding proceeds from this event and, because of the financial risk, ABSA will have the final authority on all financial decisions.
