Research Project:
DEVELOPMENT OF DIFFERENTIAL MOBILITY SPECTROMETRY (DMS)-BASED METHOD FOR INSECTICIDE DETECTION IN THE FIELD
Location: Mosquito and Fly Research Unit
Project Number: 6615-32000-045-06
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Jul 08, 2009
End Date: Aug 31, 2011
Objective:
Develop a tool to characterize Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) treatments in the field. Adapt existing equipment and methods available for DMS detection of explosives for the detection and quantification of common public health insecticides.
Approach:
(1) Utilizing Gas Chromatography (GC)-DMS in the laboratory we will demonstrate the detection of organophosphates and pyrethroids. (2) Optimize sensitivity (by optimization of parameters such as compensation voltage, carrier gas composition and flow, and sensor temperature for the detection of specific public health pesticides. (3) Validate detection and quantification of ULV pesticides in the semi-field and field environments.
