Research Project: ESTABLISHING A PEDIGREED SORGHUM MUTATION LIBRARY - A COMMUNITY RESOURCE FOR SORGHUM IMPROVEMENT

Location: Plant Stress and Germplasm Development Research

Project Number: 6208-21000-017-08
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 18, 2009
End Date: Oct 31, 2011

Objective:
This project will compile a high quality Annotated Individually-pedigreed Mutagenized Sorghum (AIMS) library, together with an easily searchable web-accessible database describing these mutants that will be available to the public. In this proposal, we would establish an annotated pedigreed sorghum mutant library with a searchable database to serve as a permanent resource for sorghum community to identify novel traits for sorghum improvement.

Approach:
After EMS mutagenesis, individual BTX623 seeds will be propagated to the third generation through single-seed-descent. Seeds will be bulked, therefore, to serve as permanent mutant library for screening sorghum mutants potentially useful for improving abiotic stress tolerance and bioenergy traits.
