Research Project: NET GROUNDWATER USE ON SOUTHERN IDAHO DAIRIES

Location: NWISRL, Kimberly, Idaho

Project Number: 5368-13000-007-03
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Jan 01, 2009
End Date: Dec 31, 2011

Objective:
1. Measure pumped ground water flows on 12 southern Idaho dairies to quantify on-site water uses and determine net depletive ground water use for these operations. 2. Investigate the possibility of using wastewater from milk processing plants to replace ground water used for irrigation or to directly recharge ground water.

Approach:
We would like to select 12 dairies that represent the range of size and type of operations in southern Idaho. We also plan to measure where water is used on the dairies to identify any discrepancies in current dairy water use assumptions and identify potential areas for water conservation. Documents Reimbursable with IDEAL. Log 35042.
