Research Project: PERCHLORATE ACCUMULATION IN OZONE-SENSITIVE AND TOLERANT PLANTS

Location: Plant Science Research

Project Number: 6645-11000-008-04
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Jul 01, 2008
End Date: Mar 31, 2012

Objective:
Characterize perchlorate accumulation in plants in response to ozone exposure, and determine whether the response is different for ozone-sensitive and tolerant plants.

Approach:
Grow ozone-sensitive and tolerant snap bean lines (developed by parent project) under field conditions and analyze leaf tissue for total perchlorate content and the distribution of natural abundance oxygen-16 and oxygen-18 in perchlorate purified from these leaves.
