Research Project: PACIFIC AREA-WIDE PEST MANAGEMENT PROGRAM FOR METHYL BROMIDE ALTERNATIVES-ALMONDS AND STONE FRUITS

Objective:
1) Develop, test and demonstrate optimized integrated pest management (IPM) strategies for management of almond and stone fruit replant problems without MB. 2) Provide for comprehensive economic assessments of alternative replant management strategies. 3) Conduct multi-media-based educational outreach to foster grower utilization of program findings.

Approach:
1)Orchard replant trials will be conducted with almond and stone fruit growers to measure crop growth and productivity following pre-plant treatments with chemical and cultural alternatives to MB. 2)Work with scientists to tabulate and analyze all of the associated treatment costs and resulting or estimated crop returns. 3)Give oral presentations in counties where almond and stone fruits are grown, project will also contribute to a joint ARS/UC website dedicated to the PAW-MBA.
