Research Project: EVALUATION OF LIPOPOLYSACCHARIDES FOR THE POTENTIAL TO EFFECT COLONIZATION OF PATHOGENIC BACTERIA....

Location: Poultry Microbiological Safety Research

Project Number: 6612-32000-059-02
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 20, 2007
End Date: Dec 31, 2011

Objective:
To acquire the knowledge and techniques required to generate gene mutations and analyze lipopolysaccharides in an effort to subsequently evaluate lipopolysaccharide profiles for the potential to effect colonization of human pathogenic bacteria (Salmonella and Campylobacter) in the gastrointestinal tract of broiler chickens.

Approach:
ARS will identify relevant genes within Salmonella and Campylobacter that may influence lipopolysaccharide profiles, generate mutants, and analyze the mutants' ability to colonize broiler gastrointestinal tracts.
