Research Project: PATHOGENIC BACTERIA BREAKTHROUGH IN SOILS AS AFFECTED BY PHYSICAL METEROGENEITY

Location: Animal & Natural Resources

Project Number: 1265-12630-003-01
Project Type: Trust

Start Date: Sep 01, 2002
End Date: Sep 01, 2005

Objective:
To research effects of soil physical heterogeneity on bacteria transport in soil columns.

Approach:
To conduct a series of column experiments on conservative tracer and bacteria breakthrough in saturated soil columns; to characterize soil physical heterogeneity, and to compare performance of simulation models based on concurrent concepts of dispersive transport and kinetics of attachment-detachment of bacteria to soils.
