Research Project: RESEARCH INTERNSHIPS FOR EARLY CAREER SOUTH AFRICAN AGRICULTURAL SCIENTISTS

Objective:
To provide through work experience, cooperative research and scientific and technology exchange, methodologies useful for solving technical problems within the South African agricultural context and to enhance or establish income generating opportunities in rural communities.

Approach:
Scientists from the South African Agricultural Research Council or from South African Universities will conduct joint research programs set up between ARS, cooperating US Universities and South Africa. Initial priority theme will be associated with rangeland reclamation, animal genetics, farming systems, ag economics, and one other undecided topic. This will expand the current cooperative effort with South Africa by 5 student scientists.
