Research Project: Molecular Basis of Chromoplast Biogenesis

Location: Plant, Soil and Nutrition Research

Project Number: 8062-21000-047-011-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 1, 2016
End Date: Oct 31, 2019

Objective:
The objectives of this cooperative research are 1) to biochemically and genetically analyze the interactions and involvement of the components of the plastid protein import machinery in chromoplast biogenesis; 2) to determine the basis of them in inducing chromoplast biogenesis; and 3) to identify additional genetic elements in the chromoplast biogenesis pathway from vegetables and fruits.

Approach:
Standard genetic, molecular and biochemical approaches will be employed. They include techniques used to examine protein-protein interactions, protein-DNA interactions, and metabolites. In addition, genomics and proteomics will be used to help identify the potential candidates.
