Research Project: Novel Technologies to Solve the Water Use Problem of High Yielding C4 Bioenergy and Bioproduct Feedstocks

Location: Plant Stress and Germplasm Development Research

Project Number: 3096-21000-021-002-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Apr 1, 2016
End Date: Sep 30, 2019

Objective:
High throughput evaluation of sorghum lines and hybrids with improved water-use-efficiency.

Approach:
Thermal imagery from a camera (FLIR T420) mounted on a 10-meter mast will initally be used to identify candidate lines with warmer that average canopies (i.e., lower transpiration). The candidate lines will then be monitored at 15 minute intervals using the Standard SmartCrop sensors (Smartfield, Inc. Lubbock, TX).
