Objective:
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) manages 13.5 million acres of public land in New Mexico. The mission of the BLM is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the resources and land entrusted to it for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations through balanced management within the framework of the laws. To meet the goals of the BLM mission, the agency must have reliable sources of sound science concerning rangeland resources within its jurisdiction in support of the Bureau's overall vegetation management program, and rangeland health assessment, evaluations and various studies in Southwestern NM.
Approach:
Funding under this statement of work would be used to, but is not limited to: 1) support in the collection of short and long-term monitoring data within priority grazing allotments,
2) design and implement monitoring studies on landscape scale restoration practices, 3) design and implement biodiversity studies on landscape scale restoration activities, continue to provide training to BLM specialists/BLM contractors/others as identified on monitoring methodologies (for example, Restore NM monitoring, AIM studies, etc.) 4) continue to develop and improve on the monitoring database (DIMA),
5) assist with development and interpretation of ecological site descriptions,
6) assist in analyzing and interpreting existing data, 7) continue with state mapping efforts in priority areas, and 8) various studies in Southwestern NM.
