Research Project: Genomic, Transcriptomic, and Proteomic Analyses of Fungal Plant Pathogens

Location: Sustainable Agricultural Systems Laboratory

Project Number: 8042-21220-181-002-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 15, 2014
End Date: Aug 14, 2019

Objective:
To bioinformatically analyze the "omics" of various anastomosis groups (AGs) of Rhizoctonia solani and related pathogens using: (1) genome sequences for gene and marker identification, annotation, and comparative genomics, (2) transcriptome sequences for sclerotial development, identification of SNPs, and to aid in genome annotations, and (3) proteomic profiles of total and secreted proteins to identify proteins with roles in fungal development, pathology, and ecology.

Approach:
ARS will provide the assembled genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic information of several pathogenic AGs of R. solani to the Cooperator. This information will be used by both parties to jointly develop tools necessary for molecular experiments to accurately identify the pathogen and to decipher the pathology, biology, and ecology of this group of pathogens through computational and other bioinformatic and wet-lab experimentations. The Cooperator will generate bioinformatic tools and databases which will facilitate molecular investigations of the pathogen.
