Project Number: 3020-44000-026-01
Start Date: Jul 01, 2013
End Date: Sep 30, 2016
The Crop Quality Survey (CQS) will serve as the mechanism to track production and HRW wheat quality throughout the Great Plains. PGI will be responsible for collecting approximately 500 samples of the 2013, 2014 and 2015 HRW wheat crops from grain sheds throughout the Great Plains starting in Texas and finishing in the Pacific Northwest (Idaho, Oregon, Montana). PGI will deliver the HRW wheat samples to the HWWQL for quality testing. The quality analyses will include compositional data, physical kernel characteristics, milling yield, and flour, dough and baking properties. The HWWQL will transfer the quality date to PGI for immediate uploading to their interactive maps website (http://plainsgrains.org). The interactive maps will provide easy access to domestic and international customers of HRW wheat including millers, bakers, producers and food processors. The time between harvest and posting the quality data is the measure of survey’s success. As domestic and international HRW wheat sales depend on the timely availability of the data.
