Location: Wheat, Sorghum and Forage Research
Project Number: 3042-21000-033-013-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Jul 1, 2014
End Date: Jun 30, 2019
Objective:
Evaluate hard winter wheat in multi-location yield trials across the state of Nebraska for agronomic performance, winter survival and disease resistance.
Approach:
Advanced winter wheat breeding lines developed by USDA-ARS possess resistance to Wheat streak mosaic virus, wheat stem rust, or novel grain processing traits such as low levels of polyphenol oxidase, sprouting tolerance and novel starch characteristics. Successful deployment of such wheats by producers requires evaluation in multi-location trials across Nebraska. Trials will be seeded and harvested at Lincoln, Clay Center, North Platte, Sidney and Alliance, Nebraska. Observations on winter survival and disease resistance will be obtained. Grain yield will be determined at harvest. Samples will be returned to USDA for evaluation of end-use quality traits.
