A Real-Time Loop Mediated Isothermal Amplifcation (RT-LAMP) assay will be developed for the detection of VSVs as a companion test for the existing RT-LAMP assays that are already available for FMDV. Using representative VSVs strains the performance of this test will be validated and compared to established laboratory methods used for VS diagnosis. The new LAMP test will then be combined in a multiplex format with a RT-LAMP for the detection of FMDV allowing simultaneous discrimination between thse two important viral agents. In addition, these assays will be transferred onto a simple lateral-flow device (LFD) readout format for use in laboratory instrumentation, such as PCR machines. This new test will provide unambiguous results utilizing customized LFDs that can distinguish between dual labeled products generated by the FMDV and VSVs RT-LAMP assays, respectively.
