1a.Objectives (from AD-416):
Develop and release new peanut varieties with value-added traits that are adapted for optimal performance in Oklahoma and Texas.
1b.Approach (from AD-416):
Traditional breeding practices will be used to develop advanced peanut breeding lines. Agronomic performance and disease resistance will be evaluated in field trials across Oklahoma and in some locations in Texas. The cooperator will assist in conducting these field trials.
Peanut variety trials were planted in May of 2013 at three locations across Oklahoma. ARS breeding lines included in these trials included top performers ARSOK-R35, ARSOK-V30B, and ARSOK-S140-1-ol. Other ARS breeding lines and peanut varieties currently grown in the southern plains were also included. Plots will be harvested in October 2013 and post-harvest analysis will follow. Lines will be assessed for their potential as variety releases in 2014 and 2015.
